Conference/Wānanga funding:
The purpose of these grants is to provide our tauira with financial support so that they can pursue all facets of their education; for example te taha tinana (physical), te taha wairua (spiritual), te taha hinengaro (psychological) te taha whānau (centred around family and belonging). This can be achieved by encouraging all our tauira to attend a conference or hui /wānanga that is of interest to them (and their whānau) and will be beneficial for their personal and professional development.
Important to note:
All Māori students, who are enrolled at UC, are eligible and encouraged to apply for up to $200 from Te Akatoki to attend any conference(s) or wānanga per year. Tauira need not apply for the full amount, and may apply for smaller amounts throughout the year to the total of $200 to assist them in attending multiple conferences or wānanga throughout the year.
Every application made to Te Akatoki must be accompanied by an official declaration, signed by the registry, of proof of enrolment. This can be emailed directly to the Te Akatoki Exec by clicking on the 'Proof of Enrolment' tab below.
Students who receive conference/wānanga funding are required to attend either a 'Whānau Hui' or 'AGM' where they will give a 5 minute kōrero about the conference, what they have learnt and how it has benefited them.
